Puluknawa is in Eruwilporativu and Munmunai Pattu Divisional Secretariat Division of the Batticaloa District. It is situated on the Ampare – Mahiyangana Road on a hill at the boundary of the Galoya Scheme. On the southern scarp of the hill, there are a large number of drip-ledged caves. Many of these caves are having inscriptions of the pre Christian era. On the flat area to the south of this hill, are the remains of a number of structures. Encircled by a wall are dagobas, pillared structures, asanagharas, ponds and a torso of a Buddha image.
