The Sluice gate of Urusita Tank

Urusita Tank sluice gate is in the Mahagama village in Wellawaya District Secretariat Division of the Moneragala District of the Uva Province.

It could be reached from Mahagama by traversing a mile along the Hambantota-Suriyawewa road.

This sluice gate made of polished black granite had  become a popular site for vistors owing to the seven hooded cobra carved on it. The centre hood of this exquisite cobra image has a Makara Torana. Below the hooded cobra are four carved lion images. It had been a custom from the ages  to  sculpt such images in these places symbolizing the protection  of the water resources  and  the guardianship of rain as well.
